Reconfiguring critical care in the hospital and community in response to COVID-19 surge in Vietnam – Knowledge Exchange with the UK

A webinar was jointly organized by the British Embassy in Vietnam and the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) Consortium for Global Health on 20 September 2021. This event took place in the situation of many countries in the Asia, including Vietnam, facing the strongest wave of Covid 19 ever with dramatically increasing number of delta variant cases.

The webinar brought together health experts, representatives of research institutes, policy makers of both UK and Vietnam. Members of VITAL project, Dr Nguyen Van Hao, Head of Adult intensive care unit of Hospital for Tropical Disease and Associate Professor Louise Thwaites, clinical researcher of Oxford University Clinical Research Unit presented at the webinar.

This event was a meaningful and great opportunity for health experts of UK and Vietnam to exchange Covid 19 treatment knowledge and experience. The event also discussed how to turn the Covid-19 pandemic into an opportunity to transform the health system at all levels, including healthcare organization, digital transformation, and importantly, allocating medical resources to primary care facilities. This opens up the potentials to strengthen the health system capacity to cope with future pandemics and enable countries to recover more quickly.
